Vehicles in Germany's City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Report

Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say preliminary tests show the substance was likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A senior representative commented the attack made him without words and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
