19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

Success also signifies he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

His defensive play style and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an better service.

He came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour championship, seized the initiative to force a final set.

He rescued four initial opportunities in a close final set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
